Compass Support Early help for families

Birmingham Children’s Partnership have come up with a new way of supporting families in Birmingham. A new network has been set up for ten voluntary sector ‘Early Help leads’ to co-ordinate family support in local neighbourhoods.

Early Help focuses on building on a family’s strengths and interests to offer positive, practical support and help manage difficult issues & challenges.

Compass Support is the lead agency working with Birmingham Children’s Trust in Erdington.

We are working with Community, voluntary and faith sectors, health, family support, social work, police, schools, further education, nurseries, children’s centres, health visitors and GPs to coordinate local help in Erdington.

Our Community Connectors have an excellent knowledge of the local community; the services available, gaps in support, and the ‘needs’ of our children, young people and families.

Compass Support are committed to ensuring both families and professionals have the information and support they need to make lives and communities better.

We provide:

  • A helpline for families and professionals to get support to access early help 0121 303 8461 (Operating hours: Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm)
  • A comprehensive list of resources and support services in the area
  • Weekly networking meeting for professionals with speakers from a broad range of agencies
  • Early help training to professionals
  • Tailored training support for schools and other agencies to support families and young people with the issues they face
  • A monthly newsletter
  • Specialised training to our network of professionals on emerging issues
  • Information about available grants for families
