Local entrepreneur launches new business after training

Alison Wattis, a local Castle Vale resident, has recently launched a new T-shirt printing business following the successful completion of an employability-training programme delivered by Compass Support.

Get Healthy Get Working is an interactive training course that offers the development of skills and confidence to support residents into employment or training positions.

The virtual programme encourages residents to fulfil their potential by engaging in a wide range of practical activities aimed at building confidence and promoting healthier lifestyles.

Alison joined the October course in hope of learning how to use her artistic skills to make a living.

During her time on the programme, the team coached Alison on building her CV, creating a cover letter, applying for jobs, interview techniques and more.

Having always wanted to be an illustrator, Alison was thrilled when the skills she attained through Get Healthy Get Working helped her gain a place on a further training course to learn design. As a result, Alison has now launched her own printing business, Little One Designs, selling her custom-designed t-shirts.

Alison says:

I was at a point where I was wondering which direction to go in life. The course really helped me, and with support tailored to my personal circumstances, I feel like it has helped me achieve a life goal.

It feels amazing to have my own business and I’m so proud to be doing something that I love.

In addition to employment skills, the programme offers ‘Living Life to the Full’ training, giving people practical tools and tips on how to manage mental health, and cope with any struggles that may hinder their progress in life.
